4 lions in Chennai zoo diagnosed with Delta variant of Covid-19

Four lions at Arignar Anna Zoological Park or prominently known as Vandalur Zoo are experiencing the infectious Delta variation of Covid, the Zoo said.

As indicated by Vandalur Zoo authorities, the Zoo had sent examples of 11 lions to the ICAR-National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD), Bhopal.

On its part, NIHSAD had said nine lions tried positive for SARS CoV-2. The creatures were under dynamic treatment.

The Vandalur Zoo had mentioned NIHSAD to share the consequences of genome sequencing of the SARS CoV-2 infection that has contaminated the lions.

As per NIHSAD, the genome sequencing of four examples have a place with Pangolin genealogy B.1.617.2 and are Delta variations according to World Health Organization (WHO) terminology.

On May 11, the WHO had arranged B.1.617.2 heredity as a variation of concern (VOC), and said that it showed proof of higher contagiousness and decreased balance, the Zoo said.

In the mean time the Tamil Nadu government has established a State Level Task Force to offer help and direction to specialists about the counteraction and relief of Covid-19 contaminations in wild and hostage creatures in the Tiger Reserves, National Parks, Wildlife Sanctuaries Reserve Forests and others.

The State Level Task Force will be going by Supriya Sahu, Principal Secretary to Government, Environment, Climate Change and Forests Department and will have six individuals.
